Colombia 2027 — a 14-day reset for founders and entrepreneurs

Growth-stage work rewards constant output — decisions, fundraising, hiring, firefighting — and over time that pace erodes the clarity founders need most: the ability to think without noise. This January, we're gathering a small circle of entrepreneurs and startup leaders for a 14-day immersive program through Colombia, working directly with indigenous communities whose traditions have supported deep psychological and physical reset for centuries.

This isn't a vacation, and it isn't a wellness retreat in the generic sense. It's a structured program built around ancestral practices — used deliberately, with safety and consent at the center — to help you decompress, process what you've been carrying, and return to your company with sharper judgment and more capacity.

The goal isn't spiritual performance — it's giving founders who haven't had a real break in years the space to think clearly again.

We work with respected indigenous elders across several Colombian regions, using traditional ceremonies alongside rest, movement, and structured group reflection. It's not about "shedding" who you are — it's about processing stress, resetting default patterns, and thinking clearly about your business, your life outside it, and the wider purpose driving both.

You'll be in a small group of peers who understand the specific pressure of building something from nothing — which tends to produce the kind of honest conversation that's hard to have anywhere else.

The itinerary

Fourteen days, two regions, one throughline

I Week One — Valle del Cauca & Risaralda
JAN 7Thu
Arrival & Grounding
We gather at Palmaseca International Airport in Cali and travel together to a private retreat space in La Cumbre, Valle del Cauca, set up for rest and focused work over the days ahead.
JAN 8Fri
Presence & Communication
A guided session with the traditional Colombian practices of Mambe and Ambil, centered on two skills that matter as much in a boardroom as anywhere else: real listening and intentional speech. Complemented by Rapé, used traditionally to support focus and grounding.
JAN 9Sat
First Yagé (Ayahuasca) Ceremony
An evening ceremony guided by native elders, intended to support deep processing of stress, patterns, and personas built up over years of operating in "founder mode."
JAN 10Sun
Second Yagé Ceremony
A second, deeper ceremony building on the first, with space the following day to rest and integrate before we continue.
JAN 11Mon
Regional Transition
We travel to Santa Rosa de Cabal in Risaralda, with time at the region's thermal volcanic springs, and begin engaging with the heritage of the Quimbaya people.
JAN 12Tue
Group Cohesion
A trek to the Los Frailes waterfall, followed by a Mambe and Ambil circle — a chance for the group to compare notes, share what's coming up, and align on intentions for the second half.
JAN 13Wed
Physical & Energetic Reset
A day built around Kambo and Bufo, two traditional practices used respectively for physical detoxification and a short, intense shift in perspective.
Most physically demanding day — fully optional, see Safety below

II Week Two — Return to Cali & Integration
JAN 14Thu
Transition Point
Participants completing the one-week program depart here; those continuing travel back toward Cali to prepare for the second phase.
JAN 15Fri
Third Yagé Ceremony
A ceremony guided by a different regional lineage of elders, offering a distinct approach and a further layer of processing.
JAN 16Sat
Recovery & Alignment
A restorative acupuncture session in the morning, followed by a full day of rest and quiet preparation.
JAN 17Sun
Fourth Yagé Ceremony
The final ceremony of the program, oriented around integration — connecting what's come up over the two weeks into something usable going forward.
JAN 18Mon
Group Integration
A day for rest and structured group conversation, using Rapé, Mambe, and Ambil to support reflection, with space to talk openly about what each person is taking from the experience.
JAN 19Tue
Integration Through Movement
A guided integration workshop combined with a trek through the Farallones mountains, following trails historically used by the Yanaconas people.
JAN 20Wed
Closing Circle
We return to La Cumbre for a closing guayusa ceremony — a lower-intensity, heart-centered close to the two weeks.
JAN 21Thu
Departure
A final morning of shared reflection before heading home.

Medication contraindications

SSRIs and other psychiatric medication — read this one first.

Several of the traditional medicines used in this program — particularly Yagé/Ayahuasca — can interact dangerously with serotonergic antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs) and other psychiatric medications, with risk of serotonin syndrome. If you are currently taking a serotonin-based antidepressant, you must stop at least one week before the trip. Some medications require a longer, carefully managed taper — please consult your prescribing physician and our team well in advance, and never stop or adjust medication without medical guidance. If you have a cardiac condition, history of psychosis, or are pregnant, contact us before registering.

Substances that must not be combined

Yagé acts as an MAO inhibitor — some combinations are life-threatening.

Because Yagé acts as an MAO inhibitor, combining it with certain medicines and substances can be dangerous and, in some cases, life-threatening. These must be avoided in the period before, during and after the ceremonies:

  • Antidepressants, in particular SSRIs — paroxetine (Seroxat), fluoxetine (Prozac), citalopram (Cipramil), fluvoxamine (Fevarin), sertraline (Zoloft) — and the herb kanna (Sceletium tortuosum)
  • Stimulants and appetite suppressants — phentermine, ephedra/ephedrine supplements (Xtenzion, Ultra Boost, Superstacker, Ephedra supercaps and similar), pseudoephedrine, macromerine
  • Alcohol
  • Recreational drugs — MDMA, amphetamines, cocaine
  • Migraine and allergy medication
  • Anaesthetics
  • Sleeping aids

This list is not exhaustive. If you take any medication, supplement or other substance, tell us as early as possible so we can advise before you book.

Pre-existing conditions

Mental health, cardiac, metabolic and neurological conditions.

Where there is a severe mental health condition such as schizophrenia or psychosis, participation in Yagé ceremonies is strongly not advised.

Conditions that carry additional risk include unstable diabetes mellitus, severe kidney disorders, epilepsy, severe neurological conditions, circulatory conditions (angina pectoris, stroke/CVA, pheochromocytoma), liver disorders and blood dyscrasias.

If any of these apply to you — or anything else you're unsure about — contact us and speak with your doctor or therapist before registering. We'd rather have that conversation early than turn someone away on arrival.

All ceremonies are optional

Sit out anything, any day, for any reason.

You can choose to sit out any ceremony or practice on any day, for any reason, with no pressure to participate. The itinerary describes what's on offer, not a requirement — you're in control of your own experience throughout.

Preparing for the ceremonies

What to do in the week or two before you travel.

An intention is simply a purpose you set for yourself, and it's what keeps you anchored during a ceremony. Getting clear on it beforehand focuses the mind and makes the work that follows more useful.

In the week before you travel, we recommend:

  • A short daily meditation, even if you don't normally practice — use it to sit with your intention rather than to empty your head
  • As much time outdoors as you can manage
  • A media fast — no television, films, news or social feeds. This is the part founders find hardest and value most
  • Abstaining from sex for the seven days before the ceremonies, and the seven days after. Intention, focus and sensitivity all sharpen with it

The pre-departure diet

Vegetarian, from at least four days out — a week is better.

The MAO-inhibiting effect of the medicine requires a diet beforehand: at least four days in advance, and ideally starting a week before the retreat. The diet is entirely without meat. Meals in Colombia are provided and prepared accordingly — the part that's on you is the week before you fly.

A few days on soups, salads, cooked vegetables and other light, easily digested food is the best preparation and leaves you far more receptive. Keep it vegetarian and, if you can, organic: no sugar, no citrus, nothing spicy, no garlic, no onion, minimal salt, and modest portions.

Don't eat in the four to five hours before a ceremony — but don't arrive starving either. The aim is balance: not too much, not too heavy, and not too little.

Foods that can cause nausea or headaches

A longer avoid-list — worth checking before you shop.

Alongside the vegetarian diet, these are best avoided in the days before the ceremonies. They won't put you in danger, but they reliably make the experience harder on the body:

  • Processed dairy — yoghurt, sour cream, buttermilk
  • Aged, mature or unpasteurised cheese and farmer's cheese (cottage cheese and young cheese are fine)
  • Dried and fermented sausage — salami, pepperoni, corned beef, liver
  • Meat, fish and eggs that aren't fresh
  • Salted pickled herring and dried fish
  • Meat extracts
  • Yeast products such as Marmite (bread is fine)
  • Sauerkraut
  • Figs, bananas, pineapple, avocado, raisins, plums and raspberries
  • Peanuts and other nuts
  • Fava beans, snow peas, soy beans, lentils
  • Soy sauce
  • LSA — morning glory and Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds
  • MDA-related herbs — sweet flag and nutmeg
  • Chocolate
  • Caffeine — coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks
  • Guarana
  • Ginseng
  • St John's wort
  • Nasal sprays such as Vicks Sinex, Prevalin or Otrivin
  • Any other MAO-inhibiting product

Physical readiness

Treks of up to four hours across remote terrain.

The program includes jungle treks of up to four hours and travel across varied, sometimes remote terrain. Come in reasonably good physical condition; let us know in advance about any physical limitations so we can plan accordingly.

Travel insurance

Required — wilderness cover and medical evacuation.

Comprehensive travel health insurance covering wilderness activities and emergency medical evacuation is required for participation.

Disclosure & the ceremony agreement

What we need from you before your place is confirmed.

If you currently take medication or any other substance that shouldn't be combined with this work, discuss with your doctor whether it is safe to stop before, during and after the ceremonies, how far in advance to stop, and how best to taper. Never discontinue medication without your doctor's approval. We cannot be held liable for decisions you make about taking or not taking your medication.

Every participant completes a Ceremony Agreement as part of their application. Please answer all of it honestly and in full, and tell us about any medical condition not covered by the questions — we can't be held responsible for problems arising from incomplete or inaccurate answers, and without a completed form you can't take part.
